Addie Ruth Stewart Lewis

Mrs. Addie Ruth Stewart Lewis, age 89, of Sparta, passed away Thursday, January 1, 2015. Born December 27, 1925, in Owen County, she was the daughter of the late James Clarence and Clara Beverly Stewart and the widow of Ruben Lewis, Jr. Also preceding her in death were her sisters, Sadie Olds, Mabel Hon and Annie Christina Hon. Mrs. Lewis was a homemaker and farmed with Ruben all their married life. She served on the Southern States Co-Op Farm Home Advisory Committee. She was a devout member of the Jonesville United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for over 50 years and served in the United Methodist Women's Group. She enjoyed reading and studying her Bible and striving to teach her grandchildren and great grandchildren important life values. She participated locally in the Country Corners Homemakers and assisted young 4-H girls with their sewing projects. Surviving are her son, Harold Lewis of Turner's Station; her daughter, Marlyn Lewis Godby of Midway; her sister Alma Stewart of Ohio; four grandchildren, six great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at the Main Street location on Sunday, January 4, 2015 from 4-8pm. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11am with burial in the Poplar Grove Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass or Jonesville United Methodist Church.
